Our Minnesota Roots

When we talk about the Monarc way, we’re referring to a combination of “Minnesota Nice” and the “Midwest Way” which is all about being kind and maintaining a positive outlook. Life is hard but if you approach it glass half full and treat people like the amazing humans that they are, you go a lot farther in our opinion. So how does that show up in our ebikes?

First, we’re here for you. We are open M-F, 7a - 7p on purpose, dedicated to helping you with every question, and making sure you’re supported if anything happens. Whether you've got an issue or just looking for an enjoyable conversation we're here for it! We'll even end it with a good old fashioned 'Midwestern goodbye'.

Second, we love our home state. That love shapes how we lead, with kindness, as we build the bike brand we’ve always dreamed of, reflected in subtle details throughout the bikes and the brand. The Monarch butterfly is our state butterfly and as it represents transformation, we’re committed to a product roadmap that doesn’t require you to upgrade in 2 years. We want to keep you on the road in the same model you have now, for the foreseeable future. Our colors are callouts to some of our favorite local wildlife and landmarks. There are bits of Minnesota in everything we do. Let us know where else you see it!

Third, we’re truly tackling the reason why most people are intimidated by riding with a few things: an included 5-year warranty, an included spare battery with fast charger, and impeccable engineering. You need something that is durable, long-lasting and will get you where you need to go, time after time after time. So we’ve built a strong frame and included more battery and more warranty than any other ebike brand, AND we’re here for you 12 hours a day so you can really, truly feel good about choosing a car-lite life.

The Designer

Ryan grew up in Detroit, a very car centric town that had a lot of empty streets. His love of bikes came from the desire to navigate the city without a car. His riding began on a fixie, a simple bike, that offered everything he needed.

His first internship took him to Shanghai where he bought another fixie to navigate the city. Bikes were now a regular part of his commute. Ryan has lived in some of the most populous cities in the world, always exploring at the pace of a bike.

Ryan moved to the Twin Cities in 2019, continuing to work in the bike industry as a design leader.

Since becoming a dad, the rides now complement his dad-ness, and as soon as the workday is done, Ryan is on the Minneapolis bike paths picking up his kids - but his mind never stops spinning on the next Monarc bike.

The Engineer

Julia’s connection to bikes started early, through family rides and weekends spent outdoors on two wheels. Originally from southeastern Wisconsin, she is familiar with the beauty that comes from biking throughout the Midwest. Now based in Seattle, she enjoys exploring both the city streets and mountain trails of the Pacific Northwest. One of her favorite ways to travel with her husband (a Minneapolis-native) is by bikepacking, including multi-day island-hopping trips through the San Juan Islands.

Through both her personal experiences and her career in the bike industry, Julia has seen how intimidating or inaccessible cycling can feel for many people. That perspective shapes the way she approaches product development, with a focus on making bikes feel approachable, intuitive, and easy to integrate into daily life. She believes there’s no “right” way to ride a bike. Whether someone rides for transportation, adventure, fitness, or simply for fun, every reason is worth celebrating.

No matter where she is, Julia is happiest when she’s exploring by bike, discovering new places, sharing rides with friends and family, and finding adventure in everyday moments.

Included Spare Battery

We didn’t have to, but when we thought about what would really make you feel like there was no reason to not get out there and ride, we knew we had to tackle range anxiety and battery life. Swap your batteries to extend the life or take both on the ride and go up to 120 miles on a single trip.

Safety First

Riding on the open road comes with risks and we want to mitigate those as much as possible by designing real safety into the DNA of our ebikes. Of course all of our bikes are UL certified, but we don’t stop there. From rear detection radar, to tire pressure monitoring, to smart helmet capability all the way down to the battery IPX7 waterproof rating, we’re making sure you feel safe to explore.
